How much fertilizer does centipede grass need?

One reason why TifBlair Centipede sod and seed is environmentally friendly is that it has the lowest fertility requirements of all lawn grasses. A Centipede lawn should be fertilized only once a year, or not at all. Fertilize based on soil test recommendations. Your TifBlair lawn will be healthy and thrive if fertilized sparingly.
- Apply between 1 and 2 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet annually, during the growing season. Select a fertilizer that is labeled for use on centipedegrass lawns (such as our Centipede Formulation). To avoid fertilizer burn, do not apply fertilizer to wet turf. Too much fertility will result in a thatchy and unhealthy lawn.
- Centipede thrives on an acid soil with a pH range of 5.0 to 6.0. Do not apply lime to Centipede without testing soil pH.
When laying new TifBlair Centipede sod, apply Super-Sod's Total Lawn Food Centipede Formulation (5-10-30) at a rate of 10 lbs. per 1000 square feet.
