Why it lasts

Thin fire pits burn through. Thick ones don't.

The bowl from the hardware store is painted steel about as thick as a cookie sheet. Fire burns paint, and by the third fall there's a hole in the bottom.

Ours is hot-rolled American plate steel: three-sixteenths of an inch on the Firepit 34, a full quarter inch on the Firepit 40. It doesn't rattle when a log lands, and there's nothing to wear through.

Less fuss. More fire.

The V feeds itself.

The sides slope in, so logs slide down into the coals as they burn. Less poking. Longer fires. You get to sit down.

02

Ash comes out by the handles.

The bottom plate lifts out. Two handles, one dump, back in. The cleanup that stops people using a fire pit is gone.

Together in minutes.

Five pieces. No hardware, no tools. Two people, and it's lit the evening you bring it home.

It won't sink.

The base is turned under, so the weight rides on a flat foot instead of an edge. Set it once on gravel or soft ground and it stays level.

The finish

Season it like cast iron.

It's plate steel, so treat it like a skillet. Wipe it down with oil while it's still warm and it keeps a deep charcoal black. Skip the oil and it weathers to the same warm brown as Edge Right steel edging.

Oil it or don't. Both are right.

Questions people ask

Before you ask.

Is it Cor-Ten, like Edge Right edging?

No. The edging is Cor-Ten because it's 16-gauge steel living in wet dirt. Both fire pits use hot-rolled plate steel: 3/16 inch on the Firepit 34 and 1/4 inch on the Firepit 40. Thickness is the protection here, not the alloy.

Will it rust?

It's plate steel, so it can. Wipe it with a little oil while it's warm, the way you'd season cast iron, and it stays dark. Leave it bare and it weathers to brown on the surface.

How do I season it?

Light a small fire so the steel is warm to the touch, then wipe a thin coat of flaxseed or linseed oil on the outside with a rag and let it bake in. Two light coats beat one heavy one. Do it a couple of times a season, or whenever you want it darker.

Will it stain my patio?

Bare steel can shed a little color onto light pavers early on, more so after rain. Seasoning helps. Gravel, a paver pad, or a stand settles it.

How do I move something this heavy?

It comes in five pieces and goes together where it lives. No tools, two people. Then it stays there, which is the point.

Can I pick it up at a Super-Sod store?

Yes, the Firepit 34. It's in stock at Super-Sod stores in Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Alabama. Choose Pickup at the top of this page and select your store. The Firepit 40 ships to you.

Is delivery included?

Yes. Standard delivery is included in the price of both sizes.

Is it smokeless?

We make no smokeless claim. With dry, seasoned wood, good airflow, and a hot, established fire, it can burn with little visible smoke. Damp wood, lighting, and smoldering can produce more smoke. The V-shaped sides help logs settle into the coals as they burn.

Can I cook on it?

It's a fire pit, not a grill. That said, customers have found grill grates that sit on the ledges inside, and one has cooked kebabs and calzones over the coals.

Where can I put it?

Open air, on a non-flammable surface, with the clearance from your house and fence that your local code calls for.

You can buy another bowl. Or you can buy the Edge Right fire pit.
