Palisades Zoysia
Developed by Texas A&M to withstand heat & drought
Palisades Zoysia Description
Palisades Zoysia is a medium‑textured, soft-to-walk-on, warm‑season turfgrass for all Texas landscapes. It was developed at Texas A&M to withstand southern heat and drought.
You’ll appreciate its balanced tolerance to shade and moderate drought, combined with excellent heat resilience and a quick spring green‑up.
Under proper care, Palisades develops a dense, uniform carpet that holds color later into fall than many other warm‑season varieties.
- Leaf texture: Medium—offers a fine‑to‑medium feel underfoot
- Plushness: High—for a thick, cushioned surface
- Shade tolerance: Medium; must receive at least 6-7 hours of direct unfiltered sunlight to thrive
- Drought tolerance: Medium; withstands short dry spells, but benefits from supplemental irrigation; survives long periods of drought by going dormant and recovering with regrowth when rain returns
- Traffic & wear tolerance: Medium; suited to typical play by kids, small/medium dogs, and light recreational use (e.g., parks, casual sports)
- Heat tolerance: High—remains vigorous through peak summer temperatures
- Cold tolerance: Medium—retains green color later into fall and greens up earlier in spring
- Winter appearance: Dormant brown stand during the dead of winter; enters dormancy and turns brown once temperatures consistently drop below freezing; stays greener longer in the fall and greens up sooner in the spring
- Maintenance considerations: Maintenance level is medium—Palisade's dense stand suppresses weeds, though it requires moderate irrigation and fertilization
- Lifestyle considerations: Suited to yards with medium activity levels—children at play, pets, and occasional light sports—while still delivering a refined, well‑kept look
- Curb appeal (with proper care): High—forms a uniform, weed‑resistant turf when fertilized, irrigated, and mowed correctly
